WIP:

- 0.181: darq fixed macro typo in video\tecmo_mix.cpp; renamed MCFG_TECMO_MIXER_BLENDSOUCE to MCFG_TECMO_MIXER_BLENDSOURCE. Corrected some sum_colors mistakes. Added extra parenthesis to std::min for sum_colors and removed 'extra spaces'.

- 0.164: Osso enabled save state support in Super Pinball Action.

- 0.154: Unify and refactoring Super Pinball Action video code. Prepared code for better rendering. Super Pinball Action now uses render to individual bitmaps then mix, fixes a few priority bugs, but there are a lot of uncertain cases. Make blend code more flexible so we can put in the alt config Super Pinball Action (prototype) uses, cleaned up some code in tecmo_spr as a result, actually has proper colours/priority now, still not sue what the extra cpu on the proto does tho. Start making the Tecmo mixer a reusable device (video\tecmo_mix.c) [David Haywood].

- 0.148u1: TrevEB, f205v, Tormod, Smitdogg and The Dumping Union added clone Super Pinball Action (prototype). This is weird, it's a very early proto, it barely fits the existing hardware profile at all. Palette format is different, tile format is different, but stranger still there is an extra Z80 rom (I see no extra Z80 on the PCB) and a ROM containing tiles at a horizontal orientation?! Furthermore spriteram colour is in a different place, and overall mixing must be different too, plus it only ever writes the background for one of the levels to the 2nd layer, so the first table shown in attract looks strange and has bad colours. Not a clue what to make of this at the moment. Insert extra credits if needed [The Dumping Union]. Start converting game to tilemaps, it's now clear that the prototype uploads the backgrounds once and uses the scroll regs (not hooked up) whereas the release version just uploads them as it needs them before each level. I wonder if the extra Z80 rom + gfx on the proto are for a 2nd screen, some kind of fake dmd? Super Pinball Action (prototype) progress. Also not really sure what's mapped to the additional Z80 CPU. Shuffle some Tecmo sprite code around ready for device conversion / attempting to unify it a bit (video\spbactn) [David Haywood]. Added Z80 (4MHz) CPU3. Swapped audiocpu rom ($0) with extracpu.

- 25th January 2013: Smitdogg - We got a prototype of Super Pinball Action.

- 0.146: Brian Troha adjusted clock speeds in Super Pinball Action based on OSCs actually on the PCB. Added missing button and labeled buttons. Added DIP locations and misc documentation. Changed YM3812 clock speed to 4MHz and OKI6295 to 1MHz. Added 4th button.

- 0.136u2: Atari Ace converted Super Pinball Action to use driver_data structure.

- 0.131u1: Angelo Salese merged memory maps in Super Pinball Action.

- 0.124u1: Aaron Giles fixed crashes with access violation.

- 0.123u6: Zsolt Vasvari fixed crash in Super Pinball Action debug build. Corrupted graphics in normal build.

- 0.71: Leon van Rooij improved graphics in Super Pinball Action.

- 0.68: David Haywood added Super Pinball Action (US). Renamed (spbactn) to (spbactnj).

- 3rd May 2003: David Haywood added the USA version of Super Pinball Action.

- 0.66: Smitdogg fixed reversed 'Display Instructions' dipswitch.

- 0.59: David Haywood added 'Super Pinball Action (Japan)' (Tecmo 1991).

- 18th February 2002: David Haywood sent in a driver for Super Pinball Action complete with sound, although there are some graphical glitches, and again Stephane Humbert did the inputs and dipswitch settings in the driver.

- 17th October 2000: Noel Miruru from Team Japump dumped Super Pinball Action (Japan) (c)1991 Tecmo.

History

Arcade Video game published 28 years ago:

Super Pinball Action (c) 1991 Tecmo.

A pinball game featuring 4 boards :
1. On the Carnival Board, there are two ways to work towards the goal : knocking out the drop targets on the upper board, or hitting the button targets that light the word 'Rhythm' on the lower part of the main board.
2. On the Border Board, the 'INPUT' button targets in the center upper part of the board are the ones to hit to work your way towards your goal.
3. On the Monster Board, you must complete 7 different target areas, each one referring to a body part : 2 roll-throughs for arms, two holes for eyes, two sets of targets for legs and the top rollovers work towards the 'head'.
4. On the Sniper Board, you knock down the 'LOAD' drop targets, then shoot the Shot Bonus button target when lit. You do this 6 times to reach your goal.

As you go follow through on the game, the warp shots let you see how far you've gone in your quest to finish each board. The fewer clothes each girl has, the further you have gone on that board. Once the women are topless, you've done all you can on that board.

- TRIVIA -

Released in April 1991 in Japan.

- UPDATES -

The US version is slightly different, it has the "Winners Don't Use Drugs" screen.

- TIPS AND TRICKS -

If you see you're on your last ball and the warp light is on, shoot at that target. Warping between boards (or even back to the board you were on) starts you with another set of balls.
